Congressman Cory Mills Introduces Legislation to Prioritize Relief for American-Owned Businesses Over Chinese-Controlled Entities

February 6, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Cory Mills (FL-07) reintroduced the Preventing SBA Assistance from Going to China Act to ensure American tax dollars support U.S. businesses, not those tied to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This bill blocks companies based in China or those with more than 25% Chinese ownership from receiving Small Business Administration (SBA) assistance. The original cosponsors include Reps. Daniel Webster (FL-11), Vern Buchanan (FL-13), Gregory Steube (FL-17), James Baird (IN-04), Scott DesJarlais (TN-04), and Scott Perry (PA-10).

“We are putting America’s small businesses first. They are the backbone of our economy. Businesses linked financially or politically to the Chinese Communist Party will not see a single dollar of relief from the U.S. government. The communist regime’s emboldened actions are a threat to our nation and fiscal security. The CCP is not just challenging our economic interests; they’re actively working to create instability in global markets,” said Congressman Cory Mills (FL-07)

“The SBA must prioritize American-owned businesses that create jobs, drive local economies, and expand opportunities. I am committed to strengthening small businesses in Florida’s 7th Congressional District and across the nation.”

“Small businesses are the backbone of America’s economy, and taxpayer dollars should support them—not companies tied to the Chinese Communist Party,” said Congressman Daniel Webster (FL-11).

“This bill is a commonsense solution to safeguard our national security and ensure that the Small Business Administration prioritizes American entrepreneurs.”

“Since back-to-back hurricanes devastated my district, small businesses have been fighting to rebuild and recover. SBA disaster assistance is a critical lifeline for these businesses, supporting local jobs and economic recovery. I’m pleased to join Rep. Mills to ensure that these much-needed funds are no longer allowed to be funneled to companies with deep ties to the Chinese Community Party while our own constituents and small businesses struggle.” said Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-13).

“Small businesses play a critical role in not only the economy, but our national security. I am pleased to partner with my colleague, Representative Mills, in reintroducing the Preventing SBA Assistance from Going to China Act—a vital piece of legislation that invests in American-owned small businesses and guarantees no taxpayer dollars go toward subsidizing Beijing’s war of economic aggression on working families.” said Congressman Greg Steube (FL-17).

“In the wake of the devasting wildfires in California and Hurricanes Milton and Helene, I am proud to support the Preventing SBA Assistance from Going to China Act to put Americans first,” said Congressman James Baird (IN-04).

“SBA disaster assistance – funded by American taxpayers – should be distributed to help American businesses, not businesses owned by our foreign adversaries. This is just common sense. The threat posed by Communist China has only increased over the past few years, so we must do what we can to prevent American tax dollars from propping up our adversary, China.”
