Constituent Casework Wins

VETERANS AFFAIR

Our office recently assisted a local constituent who had been waiting months for an update on their VA disability claim. After contacting the Department of Veterans Affairs and advocating on their behalf, we were able to help move their case forward and ensure they received the benefits they earned through their service. If you’re experiencing issues with a federal agency, from the VA to Social Security, passports, or IRS matters, my team is here to help. Serving the people of our district is our top priority.

Congressman Cory Mills and his team assisted a constituent from Port Orange after dealing with the Veteran’s Affairs regarding a claim. The constituent is a disabled veteran who receives community care, which allows them to see pain management doctors close to their home. Over the past year, the constituent’s care was delayed for no apparent reason, creating significant stress and discomfort for both them and their family.

In addition, the VA initially denied repairs to the constituent’s dental bridge, and the prolonged delay caused further painful damage. Despite their efforts, the issues remained unresolved. However, after contacting Congressman Mills’ office and explaining the situation, they were contacted by an administrative head at the Orlando VA. As a result, the problem was solved quickly and relief was brought to the constituent and their family.

“Thank you so much for your help. This has been a very stressful time and myself, and my family really appreciate you taking the time to help us get our issues resolved,” a constituent from Port, Orange.

IMMIGRATION

My office was able to assist a local family facing a serious immigration casework challenge. After marrying in July 2021, the couple filed the required I-485 and I-130 applications—along with work and travel permits—through their attorney. While they received the work permit in July 2022 and travel authorization in January 2023, their process took an unexpected turn. In October 2023, they were notified that USCIS had closed their case due documentation that had supposedly been unanswered from years earlier. The problem? Neither the family nor their attorney ever received that notice. They immediately filed a motion to reopen with extensive evidence, but nine months passed without any response or progress. That’s when they contacted our office.

My team stepped in to advocate directly with the appropriate federal agencies, ensure the case received proper review, and help move this family’s long-delayed process forward. I’m proud that we were able to cut through red tape and deliver answers after months of uncertainty.

"We cannot thank you enough for your help and support. This is great news! We want to restate our appreciation for your outstanding support."--R.S. and A.S., Longwood Florida

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services

My office was honored to assist Laura Merkac, a constituent from Lake Mary, Florida who had an urgent United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) request during a deeply personal and time-sensitive situation. The constituent needed their I-485 application approved early so they could travel to Canada to help care for their ailing father before and after a major surgery.

Understanding the importance of family and the urgency of the circumstances, my team immediately worked with USCIS officials in Orlando to help ensure this person’s case was addressed promptly. Thanks to this coordination, the constituent was able to receive their ADIT stamp in time and travel to be by their father’s side. I am proud that my office was able to help deliver a timely resolution during such a critical moment for this constituent’s family. My team remains committed to assisting constituents as they navigate federal agencies and ensuring families receive the support they deserve.

“I received my ADIT stamp on Monday and I’m already in Canada with my dad. Thank you so much! I appreciate everything you have done,” Laura Merkac, Lake Mary, Florida.

Federal Aviation Administration

James B. from Port Orange, Florida reached out to my office after facing repeated delays with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The constituent had applied for a special issuance medical certificate, a critical requirement to continue flying, but after more than six months, the application remained “under review” with no resolution. After my office intervened, the FAA responded within two weeks, requesting additional medical testing. The constituent promptly completed every required test, but once again, the application stalled for another six months with no movement.

When the constituent contacted my office a second time, we immediately reengaged with the FAA. Within two weeks, the FAA issued the constituent’s Third Class Airman Medical Certificate, finally resolving a process that had dragged on for over two years. This is exactly why my office exists: to cut through red tape, hold federal agencies accountable, and ensure constituents receive fair and timely responses.

“I cannot thank Congressman Mills and his staff enough for the quick response and actions to my request for help. Thank you for representing my district,” James B., Port Orange, Florida.
