REP. MILLS’ STATEMENT ON THE CONTINUING RESOLUTION

January 19, 2024

“I VOTED NO! Let me be clear: I consider continuing resolutions (CR) as lazy legislation. I refuse to kick the can until March when we will inevitably have this same fight over government funding as we have previously without addressing critical issues such as border security. Last January, we talked about going through committees of jurisdiction and having 12 single-subject appropriations bills, yet here we are voting on a CR that replaced a duck stamp bill, which has nothing to do with appropriations—a frequent tool of the Democrats where they tie funding to nongermane policy.

“As a former business owner, it’s simple to me: account receivables must exceed account payables. It’s the same thing for our GDP to national debt ratio. We can’t cut our way to prosperity; we must reform our spending by cutting programs that don’t serve their intended purposes while reforming mandatories to protect and preserve those that do. The American people deserve to see an economic growth strategy getting us to a place of prosperity, but instead, all they see is Congress passing CR after CR. I refuse to treat this out-of-control spending in DC as normal.

“Let’s reform, cut, and grow to save America from economic collapse.   Once again, Congress played the same song and dance instead of addressing our national debt, which is an existential threat to our nation. I refuse to side with the D.C. Swamp, which is why I voted NO on today’s continuing resolution.”
